Case BBOPF 07-4

Dr. Eleni Gagari (Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Boston, MA, USA) invites your opinion for the ensuing case. Please send your comments in the window located below the images. This case will be posted from July 17 to July 21, 2007. A summary of the responses will be posted in BBOP.

Clinical History

An immediate implant was removed (at an unknown time after placement) and the material around it was submitted to our biopsy service with a question as to what type of grafting material it might be. There was no indication (radiographic or otherwise) that the implant had failed, but it was removed at the request of the patient because the pulmonologist mentioned to her that grafting materials around implants have been associated with "lung disease". The patient had apparently seen the pulmonologist for an unspecified "lung disease" complaint.

Your comments will be much appreciated.
