Case BBOPF 06-7

Dr. James Cade (Manchester, TN, USA) is requesting your advice for the following case. This case will be posted from November 6-10, 2006. A summary of the responses will be posted in BBOP.

Clinical History

A 41 year old healthy Caucasian female developed generalized cervical root resorption. She had a full mouth set of radiographs performed one year ago, with no evidence of this malady. She does not use soft drinks and seems to have no etiology or health problems to correspond with this occurrence. She had 2 prior surgeries in her life: a double hernia operation at age 2, and a breast augmentation at age 25. She recently had a complete physical for an elective surgery she decided not to have, and there were no medical findings. She does not take any prescription drugs except for an occasional Aleve ( naproxen sodium) or Advil (ibuprofen) and Benedryl (diphenhydramine) for allergies. She weighed 115 for the last 20 years other than the 2 times when she was pregnant, at which time she gained an additional 25 lbs. She is the mother of 3; one son age 11 and twin daughters age 9. She said she had the life of a normal mom life, without much stress. No salivary analyses have been performed, but her dentist did not report any xerostomia. She lived in the New Orleans area for the last 13 years.

Does any one have a differential diagnosis and know of any current treatment for this case of apparent idiopathic cervical root resorption?"
